Holiday promotions stress you out? Here’s your action plan…

Black Friday and Fall Promos for Yoga and Pilates Studios: Your October 1 Action Plan

Black Friday is Friday, November 27 this year, and Cyber Monday is November 30. That sounds far away, but the studios that do well are the ones that plan in October, not the week of. I ran my own studio for 13 years and sold it at a sweet profit, and here's what I'd do starting Thursday, October 1.

First: do you actually need a promotion?

No, not automatically, and that's okay. Discounting every November can teach loyal members to wait for the sale, and deal-hunters often don't stick around.

Run a promo if you can say yes to most of these:

  • You have one specific goal, like filling a slow time slot, converting leads, or bringing in cash for a training.

  • You know your who, why, and when. Who is it for, why would they buy, and what are the exact start and end dates?

  • The math works. Check your margins and capacity before you discount.

  • You have a plan to keep people after the sale ends. THIS IS KEY.

If you can't answer the first two, skip the discount. Add value instead, with a bonus workshop, a bring-a-friend day, or a gift card bonus.

This changes every year. Here’s what I suggest right now for my clients:

  1. Free community day, then a short sale.
An example is CorePower's Orange Friday offered free classes for all, then 20% off All Access memberships through December 1. Do NOT discounts class cards. My clients know how passionate I am about this.

  2. A tight window.
One example offer is 30% off a 6-month membership for 48 hours only: cap quantities, like a set number to raise urgency. Reformer capacity makes pilates studios a natural fit. AND POST the total number available and total lef tin real time at the studio and online. I LOVE the giant post-it notes for this! Cross out or pull one down each time one is sold. FOMO activated.

  3. Prepaid commitment.
A year pass sale from Halloween through Black Friday. See #2

Your October 1 checklist

Thursday, October 1 (60 minutes)

  • Pull last year's November and December numbers: new sign-ups, revenue, and which offers converted.

  • Set one goal number, like 15 new members or $5,000 in prepaid packs.

  • Answer your who, why, and when for the offer.

  • Run the margin math, including how many spots you can actually fill.

  • Pick one offer. One clear offer beats three confusing ones.

By October 15

  • Launch a 30-day Fall Reset challenge or a dated intro offer, if fall enrollment is a priority.

  • Send one offer per email to highly segmented email lists. NO BLASTS.

  • Train your front desk and teachers on a simple conversion script for new students.

  • Hang posters at the studio - be creative and fun but always stick to your voice

By November 1

  • Set up the offer in your booking software and test the purchase flow.

  • Write your teaser email, your launch email, and a last-chance email.

  • Plan a Black Friday morning community class.

November 20

  • Send your teaser. Keep the details a mystery so people open the launch email.

November 27-30

  • Open the sale Black Friday and close it Saturday at midnight, or run a 48-hour window.

  • Send a reminder to anyone who started checkout but didn't finish.

December 1-7

  • Follow up with everyone who bought or came to the free day.

  • Review your results against your goal number so next year is easier.

The bottom line

Promotions are a tool, not a rule. Know your goal, keep it short, and have a plan for what happens after. If a sale doesn't fit your studio, sitting it out is a legitimate business decision.
